Leon Breeden awarded honorary doctorate at UNT
- Leon Breeden, director of the University of North Texas jazz studies program and the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band from 1959 to 1981, was awarded an honorary doctorate at UNT’s doctoral commencement ceremony on Aug. 14.

UNT One O’Clock Lab Band album nominated for two Grammys
- The album Lab 2009 by the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band, directed by Steve Wiest, has received Grammy nominations for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album and Best Instrumental Composition (for "Ice-Nine" by Steve Wiest). The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will be held Jan. 31, 2010.

UNT One O’Clock Lab Band tours Europe
- The Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas will tour Europe this October, including performances at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival — one of Ireland’s biggest jazz events. Festival organizers have billed the band as “widely reckoned to be the best college jazz big band in the world today” and “one of the best ensembles to perform in Cork in recent years.”

UNT One O’Clock Lab Band to perform with Houston Symphony
- The University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band — with six Grammy-nominated albums to its name — will perform the music of jazz greats Duke Ellington, Count Basie and more with the Houston Symphony in three concerts this November.
