Tolliver, Charles

In the 60s and 70s, Charles Tolliver was known as a top hard-bop trumpeter for legends like Max Roach and Jackie McLean. Though his unique bands pushed boundaries, Tolliver's recordings were on small labels and his low profile kept him out of the spotlight. In 2002, trumpeter David Weiss encouraged Tolliver to resurrect his big band, leading to a debut recording on Blue Note Records, the Grammy nominated "With Love." Now, with Tolliver's star rising higher than ever, he will record his big band live at the Blue Note on Half Note Records from July 8-13.
