Pianist, composer, arranger Helen Sung is featured in the February 2014 issue of Jazz Inside Magazine (print and digital). Her new CD, Anthem For A New Day is now available on Concord Records. Hailing from Houston, Ms. Sung discusses her classical and jazz backgrounds, work with Clark Terry's Big Band and more. This expanded 80-page issue of Jazz Inside Magazine also includes features on three different big band leaders - Mike Vax, who leads the Stan Kenton Alumni Band, Gerry Gibbs whose Thrasher Big Band is performing a tribute to his father Terry Gibbs' Dream Band, and Darcy James Argue, a protege of Bob Brookmeyer and George Russell, who leads the Secret Society Big Band. Additional features include an interview with Tony Romano, guitarist and educator at Five Towns College; and a special report and photos by Ken Weiss covering the 2014 National Endowment For The Arts Jazz Masters Awards Ceremony, at Jazz At Lincoln Center, at which Keith Jarrett, Richard Davis, Anthony Braxton and Jamey Aebersold were newly inducted. This issue also includes an expanded 20-page CD Review section, and a comprehensive calendar of hundreds of clubs, concert and event listings.
