Trumpeter, composer, author and deep thinker, Dizzy Reece is featured in the June 2014 issue of Jazz Inside Magazine (print and digital). Dizzy discusses his storied career, hailing from Jamaica, moving to London and then in the 1950s moving to New York. Championed by Miles Davis as a genius on trumpet, Reece's most well known recordings were released on the Blue Note label in the 1950s. His list of credits include 45 albums as a leader and performances with a who's who of jazz. Among his accomplishments as an entrepreneur, he created the NY Jazz Festival in the 980s. This expanded 80-page issue of Jazz Inside Magazine also includes feature interviews with bassist John Clayton, who is also a noteworthy composer and big band arranger, leader of the Clayton-Hamilton Big Band, and performances and recordings with numerous influential jazz artists. Additional interviews include bassist William Parker, who is a leader in what is alternately called avant-garde or open form music; pianist Manuel Valera; vibraphonist Bill Ware; guitarist Tom Chang; pianist Elio Villafranca, and part two of the interview with J.C. Sanford - trombonist / composer / arranger. Classic photos from Mark Morganelli's Jazz Forum accompany a feature on the upcoming star-studded performance celebrating Jazz Forum's 35th Anniversary on June 28 at Skirball Center. This issue also includes an expanded 20-page CD Review section, and a comprehensive calendar of hundreds of club, concert and event listings.
